Advance praise for M F Drummy’s Perdido:
Now and then you read poems that remind you how irreducible and necessary poetry is. What these poems do can’t be done in prose. They evoke places that, even if you’ve never been there, feel achingly familiar, and moments that, even though they’re someone else’s memories, feel shockingly like your own. Their intimacy is haunting, their wry humor surprising. Afterwards you put the book down where you can find it again when you need it. ~Marilyn McEntyre, author of Caring for Words in a Culture of Lies
In his first full-length collection, M F Drummy writes poems of landscapes; of honesty and attention; of everyday environmental, capitalistic destruction. There is much humor to be found here as well: “For some reason I feel like Emily Dickinson today,/a timid, untitled bird.” The book’s title, Perdido, translates to “lost,” a mother with her son’s ashes in her silver hair, but also redemption found when, elsewhere, “we hold hands among the rubble.” Read this book. ~Susan Browne, author of Monster Mash, Four Way Books, New York
